Wash me and cleanse me

Wash me and cleanse me
Wonderful Saviour
Here at the cross all my sin is made known

But you are a safe place
The Rock of Ages
Here I can know your forgiveness and mercy
And wave upon wave of your love

Have mercy on me O loving God
My sin I confess to you Lord of all truth
Please start a new work in me
Won’t you keep me in step with you

Restore again to me O Lord
The wonder of knowing you save me
Open my lips to sing your praise
Help me to tell of your worth

Mid section:
So that others may come
So that others may come
So that others may turn back to you

Wash me and cleanse me
Wonderful Saviour
Here at the cross all my sin is made known

But you are a safe place
The Rock of Ages
Here I can know your forgiveness and mercy
And wave upon wave of your love

My key thoughts are from Psalm 51

Standing on the shore at Eastbourne would leave many with a sense of the vastness of sky and water… ‘Wave upon wave’…

I, like many others have been helped and assured by the words in Psalm 51 coming often to this place of confession and repentance – but the discovery that led to this song was my seeing that David’s prayer looked to the bigger picture, to the place of others knowing the love of God through David’s confession and his being made right.
