I guess I’ve always had song ideas, melodies, poems/snippets of phrases in my head [some of them I ‘sang out’ at events etc], but I’d never really sat down with the intention to ‘write a song’.

Well! – you see I didn’t NEED to write [in my estimation] because there are other songwriters around, many of them writing songs that I want to sing.

I was always conscious too that my work and training as a teacher would mean that anything I wrote would end up sounding da da, da da, da da, da da… [ad infinitum] ending with chord 5 and chord 1. [HA! Just hurriedly now checking through some of my current songs to see if they do that!!!...]

…and that was the stock answer I gave to anyone who encouraged me to write – until I had a telling off [he called it encouragement!] from my friend Carey!

He was very clear that I needed to be writing down the song that God was singing through me – and so that’s what I did…

…and ‘Lord I Come Longing to Know You’ is the first result!
