Praying through the songs

Some years ago I heard another worship leader say that he prayed through the songs on the songlist.

He would take the words of one or two of the songs and ‘pray them into’ the event!

I have found this to be so helpful.

For example:
You might be singing ‘Praise to the Lord who shall nourish your life and restore you’ [Neander]…

…you could perhaps pray that as we sing together that some if not all, will know something of the restoring grace of God for their situations.

Or you might be singing ‘Fan into flame a passion for your name…’
[Tim Hughes]

… you could pray that as we sing together – there would be an invitation in people’s hearts for God to do a work of commissioning – a stirring of our hearts for the kingdom in the community

I have found this wee tip to be invaluable in my preparation, simply because it has meant that the words are no longer letters and print with musical accompaniment – but as I come to lead and as we sing together, they are already prayers – they have already been prayed.

Let me know how you get on!
