The first 48 hours!
48hours in, must be Saturday then!! Woooo!
Bristol raced the tour off the start line with a fantastic night at Carins Road. The place was packed with many special people! Friends and family, neighbours and colleagues joined us in grooving and a movin!, making it a really special night. The lovely JB and Sarah, followed by Transition opened the night. Both local groups, both superb, both quality musicians who it was a privilege to have be part of the special 1st night. Thanks Guys (and gal!). A blend of well known Latty tunes and fresh Shout it melodies were very pleasing to the ear!. The quality of the band as people and musicians is easily seen. The beats, riffs and melodies kept coming and coming. Not a foot stood as still as ‘Its Amazing’ swayed the rows and ‘Lord I lift your name on high’ put funkyness on the agenda!. The revelation for Lady Latty on night one is that as well as the band’s AWESOME musical gifting they are jokers! Real proper jokers. Quick witted comments left the lady crying and holding them cheeks down!! We also found out that our drummer Carl, can play a whole gig wearing a woolen hat with not an ounce of sweat dripped. So he has inherited the nick name ‘hats’. Them Jamaican genes!!
The lovely James brought the motive beat of the tour to an audible sound with a brief interview about the Bulgarian Partners Charity. Space within the music to hear how justice and mercy can be lived and loved out by us.
Cardiff was bathed in blue sky and winter sunshine when we arrived, but not a sheep in sight! Glenwood folk welcomed us well for what was a different night of the tour both in venue and community. Cardiff brought clarity to the reasons why the tour was happening; to SHOUT that there is Good news for the poor, sight for the blind, hearing to the deaf and the oil of gladness for those who mourn. This was a key night, so it was no surprise that ‘Shout It’ was a real moment during the set. Lady Latty, sang out the focus of Isaiah 61, God is here, in real time.
A radical move was made not by just one member of the band at Cardiff. ‘Hats’ (Carl) revelled in the freedom of playing with no head attire, whilst ‘tall man’ Mark, our funkeee bass player let loose the boogie and tilted his guitar to strut out a beautiful latin shimmee. Bruce would have been proud, so, yes, we’ll put his name forward for strictly come dancing ‘09.
